About
As your therapist,
my role is to listen to your story, to witness your struggles and successes, and to empower you to make the changes you want.
I am passionate about offering a supportive, safe, and non-judgmental space where you feel that you can be vulnerable and authentic, and receive support and authenticity in return, allowing you to grow and heal. I believe that therapy should be a compassionate and uplifting experience and at the same time, it should push us far enough out of our comfort zones that we are empowered to grow.
My therapy style is person-centered, fluid, collaborative and draws from various therapeutic modalities including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), among others. I tailor my treatment to what you need, often combine evidence based practices with mindfulness techniques to help clients solve their concerns and achieve a greater sense of well-being.
It is my hope that through our work together you will gain self-awareness, solid skills, and strategies that will allow you to create the life you envision with a sense of contentment, joy, peace, and meaning. Getting from where you are now to your desired destination will take time and can be filled with twists and turns, as well as highs and lows. Achieving this through the work we do together will be so worth the investment in yourself.
Education:
Master of Arts in Community Mental Health, Lakeland University
Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology, UW-Stevens Point
My work experiences have allowed me to work with diverse populations and address various mental health concerns. Prior to graduate school I worked with a non-profit organization providing individual trauma informed care to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, doing community outreach, and facilitating support groups. My time at this organization provided me with insight to the effects of abuse and trauma and the secondary effects that can impact family and loved ones.
During graduate school I was able to expand my knowledge of various mental health concerns such as panic disorder, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, PTSD, and substance use. I worked in a residential setting and provided further crisis services during my internships at a county agency and also had the opportunity to further my skills in a private practice setting. I worked in private practice with Compass Counseling for over 7 years before moving into my individual private practice.
